How to get started with PEPPOL: a simple step-by-step guide

Most people who hear about PEPPOL for the first time assume it is complicated. It is not. Here is what you actually need to get started.

Step 1: choose your PEPPOL software

You need a tool that connects you to the PEPPOL network and handles the technical side automatically. PepCerto is built for freelancers and small businesses: no technical knowledge required, setup in minutes.

Step 2: create an account

Sign up with your email address and your VAT number (Belgian KBO number or Dutch KVK number). That is all you need to get started.

Step 3: activate your PEPPOL ID

Your PEPPOL ID is your unique address on the PEPPOL network. In Belgium it is linked to your KBO number. PepCerto registers this automatically when you activate your account. You do not need to do anything technical yourself.

From this moment on you are reachable on the PEPPOL network and can start receiving invoices from suppliers.

Step 4: send your first invoice

Add your client, fill in the invoice details (or let AI do it for you), and click send. PepCerto converts everything to the correct PEPPOL format automatically and delivers it to your client.

If your client is not yet on PEPPOL, you can also export the invoice as a PDF and send it by email.

How long does it take?

Most users are fully set up and have sent their first PEPPOL invoice within ten minutes of signing up. There is no complex configuration, no waiting period for activation, and no developer required.
